Pluto in Capricorn

Pluto’s stay in any sign – an event with a time frame of at least a decade – illustrates the lessons of the sign, and that sign’s planetary ruler, on humanity. Pluto has now entered Capricorn, and the planetary ruler is Saturn. The influence is subtle, but in time will be transformative on a world scale. Our collective soul is growing by contracting now, and that’s different than the way it’s been in the past.

Pluto’s recent change in sign from Sagittarius to Capricorn has been a shock to humanity. The past decade in Sagittarius gave the collective soul a feeling of freedom, joy and positivism, as though anything were possible. We all took happy pills and forgot that life can be a struggle. We’re feeling the backlash of that, as Capricorn reacts and forces readjustment of our attitudes and actions. The influences of Sagittarius, and its ruler, Jupiter, are diametrically opposed to those of Capricorn and Saturn. Jupiter was expansion; Capricorn contraction. We were all going as fast as we could in our kiddie-cars, but now must apply the brakes.


Capricorn is serious and not about fun and games. He “works” with time and its limits, such as planning, preparing, and saving for the future while using, honoring and remembering the past. These things are not very popular with the world. They are not “hip” and neither is Capricorn. Humanity will be getting more “hip-by-being-square” with this Pluto transit! Just look at the Tea-Party group! All of a sudden a force in the world once considered liberal, is now a conservative voice. They are “fanatics for conservatism” Things have switched places.

Yet Saturn likes a good joke – strangely many comedians are Capricorns - Cary Grant, Diane Keaton, Jim Carey, and more. Sometimes it just helps to laugh in the face of adversity. Often the best jokes poke fun at humanity’s foibles; we make fun of what we are uncomfortable with. That’s a Pluto in Capricorn thing.

Also, imagine there is a blizzard that will last for ten years, power is out, and one is no longer “on the grid”. Discovering one’s priorities and what is truly important would happen, as well as getting back to basics. In the eerie silence of being in this situation one must become self-sufficient or perish. That is the feeling of this Pluto in Capricorn time. Capricorn is symbolically the hermit, after all.

Practically speaking, it’s time to get rid of things that don’t serve, like TV(but first watch the show “Apocalypse Man” which deals with these issues - if you can find it) and stop buying silly games and gismos that are not life sustaining. It’s time to finally grow up and live on less. Stop counting on the government for support, as it may not always be there. Ditch the gas log fireplace and get a supply of wood to burn. Learn how to protect and conserve your life force and resources (learn how to hunt.) Be economical and throw nothing away, except one’s excesses. Collect water and anything that can be traded for necessary items you might need down the road. Recycle and reuse is a mantra for Pluto in Capricorn.
